Staying at the Ombak Sunset

If we’re all being honest, my number one reason for choosing to stay at the Hotel Ombak Sunset was their infamous Datu Swing. That swing in the crystal clear ocean that you have seen all over Instagram and just want a picture on to complete your Bali photo diary. The swing did not disappoint, but the hotel was outstanding for lots of other reasons as well.

Hotel Ombak Sunset is located 2.2km from the ferry terminal, on the opposite side of Gili Trawangan. When you get off the ferry you will need to get a horse and cart around to the hotel, as it’s a little too far and difficult to walk with your luggage. The hotel staff were excellent at Ombak Sunset, organizing early check in to our rooms and luggage storage while we waited.

The hotel is beachfront (as is almost everything on Gili T), and also has a fantastic outdoor pool with a pool bar. Make sure to visit the pool bar during happy hour to take advantage of two for one cocktails! The Datu Swing is definitely the highlight of the beach, with visitors lining up to take photos daily. Obviously, lines are much longer during the sunset, as the photos are outstanding in this light. Hotel Ombak combines modern and Balinese-style accommodation options, with everything from suites to bungalows.

Start your day with complimentary buffet breakfast with both Western and Asian options, served right next to the beach and then rent a bicycle to explore the island, it is the best way to get around! Hotel Ombak Sunset also offers free wifi throughout the hotel. Our stay at the Hotel Ombak Sunset was fantastic, and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Gili Trawangan.
